(Fact:  The name "Satan" is mentioned 52 times in the 1611 KJV Bible)

Satan is called by many names. Just like you are called by many names. For instance -- my friend Laura can be called by her given name, but she also is called "sister," "mother," "wife," and "aunt." Some of Satan's names are: "dragon," "that old serpent," "Devil," "Antichrist," and of course, "Satan." The Bible also tells us about Satan's dominion of devils: Ephesians 6:11-12, "Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." How much more plainer can God make it? And it totally blows my mind when intelligent beings look you right in the face and tell you that Satan doesn't exist but they believe in what Jesus Christ taught. It's wild!

Here are some Bible verses you can look up and study on your own:

Job 1:6-7: "Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them. And the Lord said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Than Satan answered the Lord, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it."
This is only two verses of many in the book of Job that detail conversations and intervention by Satan. There is absolutely no doubt, if you believe the Bible to be the true and inspired word of God, that God is telling us about a REAL spirit that does EVIL. Read it for yourself. Don't just take my word for it. Go to Job Chapter 1 and start reading.

However, if you don't believe the Bible is the true inspired word of God, you may dismiss this book as a fairy tale. But if you believe certain parts of the Bible are fairy tales -- how do you determine which part is telling the truth and which parts are not? Therefore, what do you believe in? How do you learn about God and form a relationship with Him? Philosophical thinking such as this does nothing but confuse God's simple plan of salvation for the unsaved man or woman.

1 Chronicles 20:1-2, "And Satan stood up against Israel and provoked David to number Israel. And David said to Joab and to the rulers of the people, Go, number Israel from Beersheba even to Dan; and bring the number of them to me, that I may know it."
This scripture completely blows away the belief that the "Satan" in Job was a fairy tale. There is no story to be told here. It simply tells us that Satan caused David to take a census of his entire kingdom. God forbid this simply because he loved David and wanted to protect him from getting too egotistical. God wanted David to be happy with what he had. Since David had everything, what point could be gained by taking a census -- except to appeal to David's ego?

But David went ahead with the census anyway and discovered there were a thousand thousand and a hundred thousand (1,100,000) men (1 Chronicles 23:3) over the age of 30. So if only the men over 30 were counted, and there were over one million of them, there had to be at least that many number of women and probably twice that number in children -- making an approximate total of 4 or 5 million people. Because there were not as many people living on the earth in that time, compared to today, a kingdom of 4 or 5 million would be huge. It probably was one of the largest on the face of the planet at that time.

Why would any writer telling about David's kingdom even mention Satan if he didn't exist? What type of fairy tale could the writer be talking about? The fact is that Satan is not mentioned as part of a fairy tale here. Instead, he is mentioned as tempting David and causing him to sin (go against God's rules.)

St. Matthew 4:1-11, "Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit, into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward a hungered. And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou by the Son of God, command these stones to be made break. But he answered, and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple. And said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down; for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee; and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and showeth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; And said unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan; for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. Then the devil leaveth him, and behold, angels came and ministered unto him."
Notice the different names Satan is called in these eleven versus. Jesus has done this to show you and me that all these names refer to the SAME entity. Jesus also clearly shows us that there are two distinct spiritual worlds. One is ruled by Satan and the other by God. You can always tell them apart, because Satan is always causing confusion and interjecting lies, but the spirits from God always help, minister, care for, love and do God's will. Notice also that Satan quotes scripture. Bet you didn't know that did you? Yes, Satan knows the Bible better than we do. And he will do everything he can to twist God's word to confuse you or cause you to believe a "feeling" you have is from God. It's one of the oldest tricks in the book and Satan continues doing it today on a daily basis.

Other Scriptures Discussing Satan

Psalm 109:6 -- "Set thou a wicked man over him; and let Satan stand at his right hand."

Zechariah 3:1-2 -- "And he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him. And the Lord said unto Satan, The Lord rebuke thee, O Satan; even the Lord that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire?"

St. Matthew 12:22-28 -- "Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb; and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw. And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the Son of David? But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils. And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand: And  if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand? And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges. But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you."

Again Jesus specifically tells us that "devils," "Beelzebub" and "Satan" are all part of the same kingdom. How much more plainer can God make it for us that Satan exists?

St. Matthew 16:23 -- "But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan; thou art an offense unto me; for thou savorest not the things that be of God, but those that be of man."

Note: This scripture clearly tells us that Satan is an actual "real" spirit. Satan entered Peter and caused him to say what he did to Jesus. Jesus recognized the satanic spirit and rebuked it. Notice, Jesus did not rebuke Peter, just the satanic spirit.

St. Mark 1:13 -- "And he was there in the wilderness forty days tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him."

St. Mark 3:23-36 -- "And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan?"

Because of this Bible verse, some people will argue that Satan is just a fairy tale since the word "parables" is used. But if you go back to Matthew 12:22-28 (just written above) you will see that Jesus used parables when he was talking about a "kingdom divided against itself" not Satan himself.

St. Mark 4:15 -- "And these are they by the wayside, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts."

St. Mark 8:33 -- "But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan; for thou savorest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men."

St. Luke 4:8 -- "And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan; for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve."

St. Luke 10:18 -- "And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightening fall from heaven."

Note: Jesus said this because he was emphasizing the fact that he was God manifest in the flesh through Jesus Christ. He is talking about the fact that he was around when Satan fell from heaven, which was before the creation of Adam and Eve.

St. Luke 11:18 -- "If Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? Because ye say that I cast out devils through Beelzebub."

St. Luke 13:16 -- "And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?"

St. Luke 22:3 -- "Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve."

St. Luke 22:31 -- "And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold Satan, hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat; But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not; and when thou art converted, strengthen they brethren."

St. John 13:27 -- "And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly."

The Acts 5:3 -- "But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?"

The Acts 26:18 -- "To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me."

Romans 16:20 -- "And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen."

1 Corinthians 5:5 -- "To deliver such a one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus."

1 Corinthians 7:5 -- "Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency."

2 Corinthians 2:11 -- "Lest Satan should get an advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devises."

2 Corinthians 12:7 -- "And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure."

1 Thessalonians 2:18 -- "Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered us."

2 Thessalonians 2:9 -- "Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders."

1 Timothy 1:20 -- "Of whom is Hymeneus and Alexander; whom I have delivered unto Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme."

1 Timothy 5:15 -- "For some are already turned aside after Satan."

The Revelation 2:9 -- "I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan."

The Revelation 2:24 -- "But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depth of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden."

The Revelation 3:9 -- "Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee."

The Revelation 12:7-9 -- "And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels. And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him."

This scripture co-relates to the Old Testament in Isaiah 14:12-17, which says: "How art thou fallen from heaven O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the Most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; that made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?"

The Revelation 20:7 -- "And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison."
